October 29

Today is Hermit Day
(Introverts, rejoice!)

National Hermit Day is observed annually on October 29th. It's a day to recognize the need for solitude and to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, much like a hermit would. While it's often associated with taking time for yourself, it's also sometimes linked to the anniversary of Saint Colman's death in 632 A.D., who lived as a hermit in Ireland for seven years in the Burren Forest in a cave.

While we think of hermits as being solitary, there is actually a term for a group of hermits! It's called an an observance

Whether you decide to observe the day alone or as part of on observance, here are some ways to get the most out of this relaxing day. Socks and blankets are definitely suggested:

Order Food Delivery
Eat what you love and let someone else do the cooking

Read a book
Dive into a new novel or reread a classic

Work on a personal project
Dedicate the day to a creative hobby like drawing, writing, painting, or knitting

Enjoy a movie marathon
Watch a series of films you've been wanting to see without interruption. If watching something you've seen multiple times before, consider doing a jigsaw puzzle while you binge-watch

Putter around the house
Tidy up, organize a drawer, or simply enjoy the comfort of your home

Journaling
Write down your thoughts, feelings, and goals for the coming months

Take a long walk in nature
Go for a hike in a quiet park or simply walk around your neighborhood to clear your head

Craft or Hobby
Doing something you love and having something tangible to show for it feels satisfying in many ways. However, if your goal is to relax today, it might be best not to try something new or get caught up in a tedious project that results in a big mess
