Today is Collect Rocks Day, Sit with a Stranger Day, and (best of all) Guacamole Day!
If you're out rock collecting and decide to take a break, you could always sit with a stranger and offer them some guacamole. In which case, you should be prepared for them either to run away or call the authorities. If they flee in terror, that just means more guacamole for you. Hooray!

OVERVIEW: Guacamole, a popular avocado-based dip or spread, has a rich history rooted in the Aztec civilization of Central America. The Aztecs called it "ahuaca-mulli," meaning avocado-mixture, which evolved into the Spanish "guacamole". While the core ingredient, the avocado, has been enjoyed for millennia, the addition of other ingredients and its spread to other cultures have given the dish its staying power.
  • Ancient Origins: Avocados have been consumed since around 8,000 BCE, with evidence found in the Tehuacan Valley in Mexico. The Aztecs, who lived in the region from the 14th century, were known to cultivate avocados
  • Aztec Influence: The Aztecs are credited with creating the original form of guacamole, which they called "ahuacamolli," according to Avocados From Mexico. This mixture likely included mashed avocados, possibly with tomatoes and chilies, as these were ingredients available in the region
  • Spanish Introduction: The Spanish conquistadors encountered this avocado mixture during their explorations in the 16th century and adapted the name to "guacamole" when introducing it to Europe
  • Evolution of the Recipe: Over time, various cultures have added their own touches to the guacamole recipe. The Spanish introduced limes, which became a key ingredient. Today, guacamole typically includes mashed avocados, lime juice, onions, cilantro, and sometimes tomatoes or chili peppers.
  • Worldwide Popularity: Guacamole has become a globally recognized and beloved dish, especially in the United States, where it's a staple at parties and celebrations like Super Bowl Sunday. According to Going (Formerly Scott's Cheap Flights), NASA even included freeze-dried guacamole in astronaut menus.
