Only about a week left of Spooky Season,
so if you haven't watched your favorite scary movies yet,
time to check what's streaming where.
And if you need some ideas, here's Variety's list of the Top 100 Horror Movies of All Time
(This may not be "the best", but it may very well be my favorite that features horror tropes!)
And for those who would like something with more laughs than screams,
allow me to recommend
a classic + a fun movie that spawned a great TV series
If you want to take things a step further with a scary movie party,
we've got a few ideas to help you creep people out
Decorations & Atmosphere
Lighting: Use uplighting, flicker bulbs, or string lights to create a creepy atmosphere. Dim the lights, or use red and black colors to set a sinister tone.
Creepy Decor: Use fake spiderwebs, skulls, skeletons, bats, and hanging ghosts. You can also incorporate props like fake weapons from movies or character masks like Ghostface or Michael Myers.
Photo Spot: Create a backdrop for guests to take photos, like a "bloody" backdrop or a scene with crime scene tape.
Music & Scents: Play spooky soundtracks or eerie background music. Use candles or a diffuser with scents like pumpkin or cinnamon to engage all the senses.
Food & Drinks
Savory Snacks
Mummy Dogs: Wrap hot dogs in strips of crescent roll dough to look like mummies.
Spiderweb Dip: Use sour cream or Mexican crema to draw a spiderweb pattern on top of a seven-layer taco dip or guacamole.
"Severed-Finger" Cheese Sticks: Use string cheese with a sliced almond at the tip to look like a fingernail.
"Brain" Dip: Serve a brain-shaped dip, like guacamole or a cheese ball, in a scooped-out cauliflower or using a mold.
"Skull" Deviled Eggs: Add a bit of spice with sriracha to create a "bloody" effect.
Sweet Treats
"Bloody" Cupcakes: Drizzle red icing over cupcakes.
"Rice Krispie Treat Brains": Use food coloring to make rice krispie treats look like brains.
"Candy Corn" Popcorn Balls: Mix candy corn into popcorn balls for a sweet and salty treat.
"Ghost" Cookies or Cupcakes: Use white frosting and mini chocolate chips for eyes.
Drinks
"Live Blood" IV bags: Fill IV bags (available online) with a red punch or cocktail.
Smoky Drinks: Use a small amount of dry ice to make drinks bubble and smoke. Be sure to handle dry ice with care.
Skull Ice Cubes: Use skull-shaped ice cube trays to add a spooky touch to any drink.
"May Queen" Lemonade: A drink with a splash of grenadine, inspired by the movie Midsommar.
